Description
The statue was roughly shaped to its finished dimensions while still in situ in the quarry. As can be seen here, the nose, eye socket, lips and chin were all ready delineated during the carving process in the quarry. The carvers worked from the front and top, until the piece was carved from the rock on three sides excluding the back which was still attached.

Notes

This is a view of the Outer quarries.
